PHOTO EXHIBITIONS IN LLEIDA AND VALLS

The places I?ve photographed have either disappeared altogether from the face of the Earth, (like Ground Zero now represents something alto- gether different, a very different history than the one it showed to me that day...) or are utterly unimpressed by our categories and schedules and will survive us by millions of years.

Places have a different sense of time than us. And their perception of us is unfazed and incorruptible. We are mostly under the impression that we can impose our rules and perspectives on them. That?s how we look at the land, at nature, at our planet: as if we owned it all, as if the entire place belonged to us.

The truth is: it?s the other way round, we belong to it. Places and spaces: we think we form them, yet they form us. We fancy we travel through them, yet they travel in us. We take pictures of them, so we don?t forget we were there, yet they always remember us, as we are, imprinted for- ever into their undeletable memory banks.

The most important part of the collection consists of images of the family-Català  (Pere Català Pic, Francesc Català-Roca and  Pere Català Roca. Likewise, there is a good representation of documentary photographers who follow in the footsteps of Francesc Català, as Xavier Miserachs, Oriol  Maspons, Joan Colom, Ricard Terré,  Ramon Masats or Colita.

In the early seventies, a new generation focuses its gaze on experimentation: longer wants to witness the reality, but you want to delve into the mystery that is revealed in the images. In this line, the collection contains works by artists Joan Fontcuberta, Ferran Freixa, Manuel Laguillo, Manuel Ubeda, Manuel Esclusa, Toni Cumella, Pere Formiguera or Humberto Rivas. Associated with them, but with a distinct work, and there are also Toni Catany and Americá Sánchez.

The last block of the exhibition focuses on artists who use photography as a resource in their creative work as Perejaume, Marcel Pey, Carlos Gorge, Paco Freire, Gemma Clofent, Vanessa Pey or Mireia Sallarés.
